Skyview Pediatric Dentistry

At Skyview, we’re here to make dental visits feel safe, positive, and even fun — for kids and parents. Our team specializes in pediatric dentistry and takes a whole-child approach to care, meeting every kiddo with patience, warmth, and a plan that fits who they are.

At Skyview Pediatric Dentistry, we focus on gentle, preventative care—while also being fully equipped to treat dental concerns when they come up. Our goal is to help kids feel safe, confident, and supported at every visit.

After those four steps are completed, it is all about education. We will discuss our clinical findings, provide guidance on what is to come in your child’s dental future, answer questions and discuss oral hygiene.

Most importantly, your child will leave with a toothbrush, toy, and hopefully a smile.

At Skyview Pediatric Dentistry, a child’s first dental visit is focused on familiarizing the child to the dental environment. Although we love for kids to sit in the dental chair where we have cushions specially designed for children, we want the child comfortable. Sitting on mom or dad’s lap is perfectly fine.

What to expect for your first visit

1.

We begin with utilizing a toothbrush, a tool children should be familiar with due to toothbrushing at home.

2.

Floss sticks to check for teeth that touch is next.

3.

Then comes the mirror where we “count the teeth” and sing/ say the ABCs as baby teeth are labeled by letter.

A quick fluoride treatment is applied.

Prevention is the foundation of pediatric dentistry. Regular visits help us catch small issues early—and keep growing smiles healthy.

Preventative Services

Preventative care may include:

Routine checkups to monitor:
  • Tooth development and eruption
  • Bite and jaw growth
  • Cavities and early warning signs
  • Gum health and hygiene habits

Exams

Cleanings

Gentle cleanings remove plaque buildup and help reinforce good brushing and flossing routines.

Fluoride Treatment

A quick protective coating that strengthens enamel and helps prevent cavities—especially for kids who are cavity-prone.

X-Rays

Digital X-rays allow us to see what’s happening beneath the surface (between teeth, under gums, and in developing adult teeth). We only take X-rays when they’re needed and always with safety in mind.

Sealants

A protective layer is placed on the chewing surfaces of back teeth to help block bacteria and food from settling into deep grooves—often recommended for school-aged kids.

If your child has a cavity, don’t panic. Cavities are common—and the good news is there are several treatment options depending on the tooth, the size of the cavity, and your child’s comfort level.

Once You Have a Cavity—
What’s Next?

Treatment options may include:

A non-invasive option that can help slow or stop cavity progression in certain cases—especially helpful for very young kids or when we want to delay more involved treatment.

SDF (Silver Diamine Fluoride)

Fillings

When a cavity needs to be removed and repaired, we restore the tooth with a filling to protect the structure and function of the tooth.

Crowns

Crowns are used when a tooth needs more coverage than a filling can provide. We offer options based on the tooth and situation:
  • Zirconia crowns (white): a durable, tooth-colored option
  • Stainless steel crowns (SSC) (silver): a strong and reliable option, commonly used on back baby teeth
  • Esthetic crowns (white): sometimes used, depending on the tooth and treatment needs

Extractions

If a tooth is too damaged to restore, we may recommend removal. When appropriate, we’ll also discuss space maintenance and next steps to support proper development.

Every child is different—some jump right in, and others need extra time, encouragement, or support. We use kid-friendly behavior guidance, comfort techniques, and clear communication to help kids feel in control.

Comfort & Behavior Support

Comfort options include:

  • TV during treatment for distraction and relaxation
  • Nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”) to help reduce anxiety and make treatment easier

For kids who need a deeper level of care or more advanced support, we can coordinate sedation treatment through the Children’s Hospital and Mercy, ensuring your child receives safe, specialty-supported care.

We’re here to guide you. Schedule a visit, and we’ll help you understand your options with a plan that fits your child—and your family.
